Cash for Fash(ion)
Buy & Sell, Fashion — By Sofianna on August 8, 2012 10:28 amIt’s a known fact that many of us (particularly us ladies), have several articles of clothing that we either do not wear anymore and impulse buys that we’ve never even worn and never will.
Keep these few simple rules in mind and you could turn your fashion mishaps into some quick and easy cash. Here’s how –

-
Only sell clothes that are still in good condition. This means no undone stitching, tears or stains. Yes, people know they are buying used items, but that does not mean they want to buy rags. If the item is too worn, either throw it away, or see if you can up-cycle and re-purpose it.
-
Always clean and press your clothes. This makes it look more presentable, increasing the likelihood of a purchase.
-
Price your items reasonably. If you bought a top for $50, you’re not going to be able to sell it for $40, even if you have only worn it once or twice. $25 or lower is more realistic.
-
Do research. Find out what’s on trend. If patterns are currently in vogue, then you might want to hold back on selling your solid coloured clothes till its back in demand.
-
Be pleasant and realistic. Depending on how or where you are selling your used clothes, you should be ready for bargaining. If you’re a nice and friendly seller, people are more likely to buy from you and won’t waste your time.
There several avenues for you to sell your clothing. You could get them consigned to a shop, but these places normally only accept designer threads. Or, you could set up your own stall at a flea market. If you feel that you don’t have enough items for sale to warrant a stall, then look at combining items with family and friends.
Alternatively, the easiest and most cost-effective way to sell your items is online. Most sites don’t charge fees and it’s a fast, convenient and generally a painless process. Sites that you can look at putting up your stuff for sale are:
- Ebay
- Gmarket
- Blog shops
- 88DB Buy & Sell
And that’s just to name a few. Other second-hand items that you can sell are shoes and accessories. The rule of thumb in regards to the condition and cleaning still apply. Also, if the online world is your preferred selling mode, remember to include clear, accurate images of the items. The next time you find your hardly used pile growing or your closet space shrinking, try your luck with second-hand sales and you just might make some money.
