Arts — By 88DB Knowledge on July 31, 2012 11:01 am

After a successful collaboration with ODC/Dance (USA) in June and July 2012, Singapore dance company, Maya Dance Theatre, presents their latest project, “ANWESHA-The Quest”. An Asian contemporary dance production, ANWESHA will be presented from 03-04 August in Singapore.

Anwesha The QuestANWESHA – The Quest is a performance piece that delves into the uneasy psyche of oppressed women. Centred on Sita, the heroine in the legendary tale of Ramayana, ANWESHA promises to be an unforgettable journey into the tortured depths of a shackled inner world that is seeking redress, reclamation and ultimately reconciliation. Audiences will be exposed to an unsettling and unexplored world through the language of dance.

With Asian contemporary dance influences by Indonesian dance choreographer, Eko Supriyanto, and Classical Indian dance (Bharatha Natyam) from artistic director, Kavitha Krishnan, ANWESHA explores new heights in narrative movement. The collaboration also features music by renowned music composer and ethnomusicologist, Dr. Rahayu Supanggah from Indonesia, who has composed music for Robert Wilson’s I La Galigo, Ong Keng Seng’s Lear Dreaming and Opera Jawa.
